The Gran Melia Resort and Spa is a spectacular 4-star pyramid paradise on the Ocean in the middle of the Cancun Strip of resorts. This "Optionally" All-Inclusive Hotel-Resort (Different levels of all-inclusive to choose from), comes with some surprising amenities. What's included?: You can book a Hotel Room Only, Bed and Breakfast, Bed and Dinner, standard all-inclusive or All Inclusive or the Royal Service.

Those that enjoy the adventure of seeking out great places to eat and drink can simply sign up for the bed and breakfast package. Those who are in Mexico for nothing more than the pool, beach and sun can be waited on here 24 hours a day with the royal package. This is the first resort I have ever been to that includes 24-hour room service as part of the all inclusive services. I was also impressed that amenities like Non-motorized Water Vehicle: Catamarans, Paddle Boats and Kayaks are included for all guests at no charge.
Room Service: The room service is fast and includes items like Chicken Fingers, Fajitas and a phenomenal Chocolate Cake.
All of the meals, snacks and beverages you expect as part of an all inclusive resort are included. Plus many more options you would expect at a regular resort because it's also a regular Hotel. The premium selections occasionally come with an extra charge, such as top-shelf booze and exquisite lobster tail cuts of meat.
Located Near: Gran Melia is located across the street from the most popular and well run scuba diving center in Cancun. And the well known El Shrimp Bucket. Gran Melia Resort is about a 5 minute bus ride from Cancun's Market, killer clubs and bars.

Who goes to Gran Melia Cancun? The complex levels of service and inclusion draw a variety of Beach Goers. It has its groups of Spring Break Teens and early 20-year-olds, its families, Its world travelers from distant places and its empty nesters. This works out so that nothing ever seems to be too crowded, in the way that most other Hotels on the Cancun strip tend to be.
What level of service should I book at Hotel Gran Melia Resort and Spa? If you plan on spending most of your time on and near the resort, we recommend the Royal Service. The Royal Service is the only package that gives you the run of the resort. An entire Pyramid (one of five) is dedicated to the guests with the Royal Service. In addition to getting a few more free perks and services, these guests get a private concierge/butler, their own pools, bar and bed-cabanas that are off-limits to the rest of the guests. They get their own cafe/library built over fish ponds on the bottom floor of their building to go down to 24-hours a day with refreshments and light snacks per the natural period of the day.
Warnings:
The Spa was nice, its service was extensive, but the massage lacked an elegant touch. I recommend taking your massage dollars elsewhere.
While the deserts at the reservation-required restaurants were supreme, the buffet deserts were just OK, at best.
The All-Inclusive Packages can cost less than the nice hotel rooms that are not all-inclusive. So, be careful when booking online that you do not accidentally upgrade into a fancy room that costs slightly more that is not all-inclusive. This has reportedly been known to happen to people who book on Orbitz, Expedia and Priceline when they are navigating through their up-sell geared booking process.
Conclusion
Overall, this was the nicest and best run resort I have stayed at in Cancun.

We hit the gym at 5:30 each morning. Then when we got back we ordered free room service while getting ready for the beach and pool.
The concierge at Hotel Gran Melia Cancun Resort and Spa took care of our every random need. Sonia, our concierge, was childcare certified and offered to babysit while Juanita and I went to the market and then drinking at the bumping bars in downtown Cancun.
