Amsterdam

Amsterdam is situated in the North-Holland province of west Netherlands. With city roots dating back to year 1300, this diminutive metropolis is bursting at the seams with history, culture, and architecture. Internationally known for its red light district and cannabis vendors, this famously liberal city has a little something for everyone.

Upon arrival, visitors are encouraged to take a tour of the city center. The city can be toured on foot, on bicycle, or visitors can opt for an enchanting tour via the canals encircling the city. For a more romantic and intimate experience, try the canal tour after nightfall.

Acclaimed for its priceless collection of art, Amsterdam is home to over 50 museums, the most well known being the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Stedelijk Museum. The city also offers a number of art galleries, a zoo, aquarium, and planetarium.

There are three main districts of Amsterdam that are popular among tourists and locals for entertainment. Rembrandtplein is populated with restaurants, night clubs, pubs, hotels, and shopping. Most popular for nightlife is Leidseplein, a square fill with nightlife destinations and the notorious coffee shops and brown cafe's. Street performers inhabit this area adding to the festive atmosphere. Lastly, there is the Red Light District, a decadent area devoted to fornication and intoxication. Photography is prohibited in this area, so vacationers are encouraged to take their ginko biloba prior to their visit to help protect against the memory loss associated with the excessive indulgences they are likely to encounter in this part of town.
